Workshop on increasing resilience in Aragatsotn province: special attention paid to the risk of reservoir dam collapse

The Ministry of Internal Affairs held a regular workshop on “Increasing resilience through public awareness, preparedness and capacity building” in Aragatsotn province.

The representatives of relevant bodies, as well as regional and community authorities participated in it. Deputy Governor Armen Grigoryan expressed his gratitude to the organizers and participants of the workshop for their joint efforts aimed at reducing disaster risk, reaffirming the readiness of the regional administration to continue cooperation.

Narek Sargsyan, Spokesperson for the Minister of Internal Affairs, Head of the Public Communication and Awareness Department of the MIA noted that the experience of recent years has clearly shown how important it is to be prepared, organized and informed in order to cope with various dangers. He also added that the goal of the programs implemented in rural communities is not only to raise public awareness, but also to develop the capacities of communities.

The agenda of the workshop included issues related to seismic and man-made risk assessment, public awareness and crisis communication mechanisms.

Special attention was paid to the risk of collapse of reservoir dams.

The Director of the Territorial Seismic Protection Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Sos Margaryan and a group of employees, as well as the Head of the Man-Made Accidents Department of the RS Population Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction Department Mher Babajanyan, the Head of the Planning Department of the RS Disaster Risk Reduction Department Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and the Head of the Information Provision and Statistics Department of the RS Crisis Management National Center Lianna Abrahamyan made a reports.

A number of practical situations were discussed, as a result of the analysis of which constructive proposals were given.
