In order to prevent emergency situations and increase the level of preparedness, a number of educational, practical and training events were held in all regions of the Republic of Armenia in September to protect the population. They were aimed at raising the awareness of pupils, teachers and employees of organizations, as well as promoting cooperation between various departments and community structures.

Thematic courses were held in schools, preschools, colleges and industrial and commercial organizations on the following topics: “Rules of conduct during and after floods”, “Warning sirens”, “Rules of safe behavior”, “Correct understanding and effective implementation of primary actions in emergency situations”, “Safe and secure educational environment”, “Damage caused by burning grasslands and gardens and the importance of its prevention”, “The procedure for warning, shelter and evacuation of the population in case of an “Air-raid” warning siren, as well as “What is an earthquake and what are civil defense sirens used for”. Awareness-raising activities were also carried out in the areas, accompanied by the provision of information booklets “If Crisis or War comes”.

Special tactical training exercises were also organized and conducted in the regions of Armenia, dedicated to the correct and effective implementation of firefighting, evacuation and rescue operations by the population and personnel of institutions. Such exercises were organized in schools, kindergartens, colleges, fire departments and private companies.

An exercise was conducted on disaster recovery activities, based on the scenario of a training was a dam collapse due to an earthquake at high-risk production facilities such as the Agarak Copper-Molybdenum Combine.

Command training exercises were organized by the subdivisions of the regional administrations with the participation of regional headquarters and local government representatives. Within the framework of the exercises, the mechanisms for “Reception and distribution of the population in case of an accident at the Armenian nuclear power plant” and “Implementation of population protection measures in case of a severe earthquake” were developed and discussed.

In collaboration with the Eco-Patrol Service of the Ministry of Environment, practical exercises on extinguishing fires in forest areas were carried out, including simulation exercises and practical actions on organizing fire extinguishing.

Practical evacuation and shelter drills were conducted in public educational institutions, as well as in colleges and individual organizations. The start of the drills was using of the outdoors warning sirens, after which the staff and students were evacuated and sheltered in pre-defined areas in an organized manner. The drills provided an opportunity not only to apply theoretical knowledge in practice, but also to test the operation of the warning systems.

These measures implemented in the regions of RA were aimed at strengthening public security, preventing emergency situations, and developing rapid and coordinated response capabilities during them. These activities are ongoing, aiming to equip the population with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure their own safety.
