Years ago, enrolling at the Crisis Management State Academy was a turning point for Emil Gabrielyan, the Commander of Fire and Rescue Squad No. 5 of Yerevan Rescue Department.
In 2014, he took his first steps into a system where human life lies at the heart of everything with only a vague understanding of what it meant to be a rescuer. Through years of diligent service, Emil Gabrielyan was recognized as the commander of the best fire and rescue squad of 2024.
He recalled conducted the service in every position along the chain of command, gaining a deep understanding of each team member’s mindset and concerns. Some of the more difficult calls, especially those that struck a personal chord, remain vivid in his memory to this day. “I’ve responded to major emergencies like Surmalu explosion, Dzyunik fire, Gazprom warehouse accident and Domus fire. Every case had its own complexities, but some were exceptionally challenging. We always aim to minimize human losses and be as prepared as possible”, said he.
It’s precisely this daily discipline, teamwork and continuous learning and professional development that have yielded the desired results.
Emil Gabrielyan had never led by rank alone. He had always stood by his squad, wherever he was most needed. From dangerous calls to quiet shifts, every detail has mattered, because trust was built on the small things. He had always been strict, first and foremost with himself and then with others. Over time, he had built a team where everyone knows their role, understands their mission, and most importantly knows why they do what they do. He firmly believed that the best commander was a rescuer’s friend.
