Seminar-meetings on "Suicide prevention and intervention" were held at the Rescue Service of MIA
Every year, on September 10th, World Suicide Prevention Day is celebrated around the world aimed at promoting and supporting global actions directed toward suicide prevention. This day emphasized the mental health importance, raised awareness around the issue and encouraged united efforts so that every individual never feels alone and can get support if needed.
In line with the significance of the day, from September 10 to October 6, seminar-meetings on "Suicide prevention and intervention" were organized and conducted both online and face to face through the collaboration of psychologists from Psychological Assistance Division of the Rescue Service and Police Medical Department of Police of MIA of RA.
The seminars were attended by the various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of RA, in particular, the response forces from the Police Forces and the Operative Management Center, the State Security General Department, the Special Purpose Battalion, the Patrol Service and the employees of the "Technical Security National Center" SNCO, the Structural and Regional Departments and the emergency call centers of the Rescue Service.
The purpose of the seminars was to inform and increase the stress resistance of the participants, forming the stress management skills and emotional regulation, as well as the ability to constructively resolve issues in emergency situations.
During the events, scenarios related to the main challenges and features encountered in cases of suicide and self-harm threats during on-site cases and emergency calls were reenacted, practical approaches were presented for effective response in emergency situations and neutralization of possible dangers, and knowledge and tools were provided to prevent suicides and facilitate appropriate responses.
Psychologists also presented helpful techniques and phrases used on-site and during emergency calls, which contribute to establish initial contact and build trust with individuals experiencing self-harm thoughts, reduce potential risks and provide effective support to those affected.
During the meetings, the participants also had the opportunity to use relaxation equipment, which contributes to the acquisition of stress management techniques.
At the conclusion of the event, several programs aimed at enhancing collaboration and developing professional skills were discussed, which will enable a more coordinated and efficient response in emergency situations.
