The earthquake of magnitude 5.2 and 8 kilometers deep on 12 kmsouth- west from Artik communit in Armenia. The intensity of the earthquake in the epicenter was VII-VIII. According to preliminary data, buildings collapsed and a difficult situation was created.

This was not reality, but part of the scenario development of the next rescue service exercise.

In order to test the readiness of the response forces to conduct firefighting, rescue and emergency disaster recovery operations, as well as to improve their practical skills, a demonstration special tactical exercise was held in Shirak province on August 19 at the initiative of the regional administration.

The exercise was monitored by the RA Deputy Director Tigran Petrosyan and the leadership of the Shirak regional administration.

According to the scenario, as a result of the earthquake, apartment buildings in the town were partially collapsed, industrial facilities were damaged, a fire broke out and there were casualties. It is necessary to carry out firefighting, search and rescue, as well as disaster recovery operations.

The rescuers were taking action according to the situation. Among the responding forces were also employees of the Police, Ambulance services, emergency teams of gas, water and electricity supply organizations.

The employees of Artik Fire and Rescue Squad first blocked off the scene with special tape, then carried out an assessment of the situation and a combat readiness to start search and rescue operations.

The csaualties were provided with first aid, after which three of them were transported by the ambulance.

At the same time, professional emergency teams were conductied technical activities: restoring the damaged section of the water main, strengthening electrical poles, restoring cables, as well as sealing the gas pipeline by welding.

At the end of the exercise, the commanders of the units report on the results of the measures taken.

The exercise once again confirmed that with proper coordination, trained personnel and effective cooperation, it was possible to cope with even the most difficult situations, ensuring the safety and protection of the population.
