At the initiative of Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction Department of the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, training sessions on “The Disaster Risk Management Process in Educational Institutions” were conducted in Ararat province, aimed at the capacities building of educational institution staff to respond effectively to emergency situations.
During the two-stage training, experts in the field noted that the primary goal of disaster risk management is risk reduction, which allowed for a faster and more effective response to any emergency. The importance of preventive activities was also emphasized: with proper planning and appropriate preparation, it was possible to reduce undesirable consequences.
Methods and preventive measures for managing fire safety, earthquakes, landslides, and other hazards were presented.
The participants were introduced to the legislative and sub-legislative acts that serve as the basis for developing disaster risk management plans for educational institutions. To make the planning process more practical, school principals were provided with practical guidance, with particular attention paid to the accessibility and availability of the plans.
As a result of the trainings, the skills acquired will enable the staff of educational institutions in Ararat province to create a safer educational environment that is better prepared to withstand disasters.
