Promotion of professional capacities for rapid response to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear accidents: women’s involvement is encouraged
The Ministry of IA emphasizes the involvement of female officers in international training courses to improve their abilities and professional knowledge in responding to emergency situations.
The aim of the International Training Course on Strengthening Assistance and Protection Capabilities, implemented in 2024-2025 at the initiative of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), was to teach basic behavioral rules during chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear accidents through role-playing scenarios, in which 25 women from five continents of the world participated. The final exercise of the training course took place in March in Spitz city of Switzerland. Rescue Service employee, R/S Lieutenant Colonel Mary Arakelyan also participated in the exercise: she was trained by the Swiss Army for about a year and a half as a first responder and instructor in case of a chemical weapon explosion.
The participants of the course were taught the specifics of wearing chemical personal protective equipment, using measuring devices, using self-defense antidotes, and the sampling procedure. They also underwent special training in emergency incident management, performed necessary actions under the influence of tear gas, collected samples for laboratory analysis, and performed complete disinfection.
Under the Swiss Army’s responsibility military exercises were also conducted. The course commander Markus Müller presented the leadership experience of the Swiss Army and taught the participants how to localize the acquired experience in their region.
The Armenian representative was involved in various leadership roles that were highly regarded. She was trained as a first responder trainer for firefighters.
