Ecological, health and safety threats of dry grass burning: rescuers of Lori prevented the spread of the fire

On February 17, an emergency call was received to Lori Regional Crisis Management Center that grassland had been on fire on Vanadzor-Spitak roadway. However, the weather wasn't that hot and the grass couldn't have burned itself: only the human factor remains here.

During spring and agricultural activity, the population believes that they will have a more abundant harvest by burning the dry grass remaining in the mountains. This is a misconception, a wrong and extremely harmful approach.

The last such accident occurred a massive fire over a large area.

The fire was spreading rapidly in different directions.

Two operative groups and six fire units from Fire and Rescue Squads of the Regional Rescue Department of the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were fighting against the spread of the fire.
Based on the quick response and flexible actions of the Squads of the Lori Regional Rescue Department, the spread of the fire was stopped within hours. This could have led to irreversible ecological damage, affecting agriculture and the balance of the ecosystem. The organic material was destroyed when grassland burns, resulting in reduced soil fertility. Along with last year's dry grass, dead organic material was also burnt. This enhances carbon dioxide emissions. In turn, it increases the greenhouse effect. finally, the smoke from burning grass is not so harmless: If there are residues of pesticides and fertilizers on the burning grass, volatile toxic compounds are formed, including radioactive substances, which are transported over considerable distances. They can enter your home through the smoke and cause serious harm to your health.

The Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs once again urges to strictly observe fire safety rules, especially during the implementing spring and agricultural activity. Violation of the rules can lead to unpredictable consequences.

Reminder: causing damage to nature as a result of careless handling of fire leads to liability.

Dear citizens,

Take care of the nature around you. The priority of the state is not the implementation of punitive measures, but the preservation of the biodiversity of the environment.
