Disaster risk reduction a priority: regular meeting of the interdepartmental working group held
On April 23, the regular meeting of the interdepartmental working group on "Establishment of an operative working group and approval of the activity order" was held at the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, chaired by the Director of RS - Deputy Minister of IA, r/s Major General Kamo Tsutsulyan. The representatives of interested state structures participated.
Kamo Tsutsulyan first expressed his gratitude to those present for their close cooperation, emphasizing the importance of regular meetings in an interdepartmental format.
The RS Director touched upon the key objectives of the working group's activities, presenting ways to reduce disaster risks, prevent emergency situations and effectively eliminate their results.
Gurgen Martirosyan, Head of the Population Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction Department of the Rescue Service, presented the activity conducted in 7 landslide-prone areas of the Republic in 2024. Within the framework of the agenda items, r/s Colonel referred in detail to the engineering geological studies carried out in a number of regions and their results, noting that the studies have greatly contributed to the planning and effective implementation of preventive and anti-landslide measures.
The attention of those present was drawn to a comprehensive analysis of the existing risks, as well as to the obstacles and technical difficulties that emerged during the implementation of the activities. In this context, he emphasized the importance of close cooperation at the interdepartmental level in order to provide a joint and coordinated solution to the existing issues.
He emphasized that despite the existing challenges, the measures to be taken are aimed at ensuring the safety of the population and the uninterrupted operation of infrastructure, which will contribute to more effective management of natural disaster risks, neutralization of hazards and reduction of possible consequences.
During the session, the members of the interdepartmental working group presented the programs implemented by their departments, comprehensively addressing the existing problems and proposing substantive solutions for the effective implementation of the measures.
The solutions proposed by the participants in relation to the issues raised during the meeting became the subject of general discussion, based on their professional analyses, sectoral peculiarities and constructive cooperation.
Summing up the session, Kamo Tsutsulyan emphasized that effective disaster risk management requires a consistent approach, which was based on an operational response, clear coordination and continuous work, aiming to quickly cope with potential threats and form effective capacities to overcome them.
