Development of volunteer culture as a priority: new rescue base was opened in Meghradzor

Every idea can become a reality when it brings together those who believe in it. Nearly two years ago, the Economic Journalists’ Club NGO alongside its supporters and like-minded partners, initiated the creation of a volunteer fire and rescue base in Meghradzor community. Already on June 4, 2025 the opening ceremony of the new 13th base took place.

The event was attended by the Director of RS- Deputy Minister of IA Kamo Tsutsulyan, Ambassador of Japan to Armenia of Japan to Armenia Yutaka Aoki, representatives of regional and community authorities, international organizations and guests.

The dilapidated building of a Soviet-era veterinary hospital was transformed into a well-maintained and modern fire and rescue base, thanks to the grant support of the Human Security Program of the Embassy of Japan. Volunteer firefighters from Meghradzor will be on duty here, supporting both the community and fire and rescue squads from surrounding settlements.

The Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also actively participated in the construction of the base, donating a fire truck to the community, and also organized volunteer training and qualification exams. 

Kotayk Regional Administration, Tsaghkadzor community, as well as the Austrian Development Agency, the Austrian and Armenian Red Cross contributed to the launch of the base.

The Ambassador of Japan to Armenia, the Governor of Kotayk, the Head of Tsaghkadzor Community and others also made speeches. It was noted that the continuity of the process will contribute to increasing the effectiveness of population protection.

During the event, Kamo Tsutsulyan presented badges to qualified volunteers.

Anna Baghdasaryan, President of the Economic Journalists' Club, presented certificates of appreciation to a group of people who supported the construction of the base for the successful implementation of the program.

The volunteers who received the rescuer qualification performed an exercise, demonstrating their professional abilities and skills in emergency situations.

At the end, the Director of RS - Deputy Minister of IA Kamo Tsutsulyan answered questions from the media.
