The regular exercises are of great importance to ensure the continuous readiness and professional development of the Rescue Service. These exercises help assess the preparedness of rescue personnel and identify directions for improving their skills.

On November 11, the Population Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction Department of the Rescue Service of MIA conducted a special tactical exercise on “Actions of the Rescue Service’s Radiation Monitoring Teams in case of a general nuclear and/or radiation accident at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP)” which was led by the Head of the Department Gurgen Martirosyan.

Five main radiation monitoring and response teams of the Rescue Service participated in the training.

The key objectives and principles of the special tactical exercise were to test the effectiveness and feasibility of measures established in the nuclear and radiation emergency response and fire safety plans of the ANPP, to enhance the professional capacities of the radiation monitoring teams, to improve procedures for transmitting data to the National Crisis Management Center, and to strengthen cooperation among teams. Other purposes included studying movement routes and ensuring uninterrupted radio communication.

During the exercise, the Crisis Management National Center carried out the warning of radiation monitoring and response teams. Following this, team leaders deployed forces toward designated planning zones for defensive and urgent protective actions, with the purpose of organizing radiation monitoring.

According to the scenario, emergency power supply systems were activated. The monitoring teams periodically conducted radiation measurements within the defined zones, adhering strictly to safety norms and requirements.

At the conclusion of the exercise, participants presented the results of their activities. During the summary discussions, the participants’ professional preparedness and cooperation were highly praised.
