The 1st shift of the Dilijan fire and rescue squad did not consider service a job, but a humanitarian mission, where empathy was also important. They said that being a rescuer was a character and a lifestyle.

They were also guided by this principle on May 26, 2024, when the Aghstev River overflowed and reached the settlements. Head of the 1st shift of the Dilijan Fire and Rescue Squad Arshak Melikjanyan remembered those days, "It had been raining nonstop for several days. Early in the morning, we received an emergency call from several directions. We dispatched to the scene in several groups. An elderly man said that his wife was still inside the house. We entered through the window, went up to the second floor and brought the woman down — the water inside the house had already risen over a meter. There was another house nearby, the residents had gotten out, but all their belongings were still inside. We took the belongings out, and the house was completely swept away by the river just a few minutes later".

Koryun Pirumyan said that the squad performed a heavy duty service in 2024, responding to about 590 calls, including responding to the floods in Tavush and Lori provinces. He especially emphasized the 1st shift Fire and Rescue service, “Assistance was provided to stuck citizens, implemented roads were cleared of silt and tree debris, as well as drainage was carried out”.

Dilijan Fire and Rescue Department had sincere, direct relationships, which was a main guarantee for the successful implementation of the service, said Koryun Pirumyan.

The firefighters perform their service selflessly, with a commitment to helping people. According to Arshak Melikjanyan, being awarded the best shift of 2024 was a matter of pride, as well as an obligation. The fire and rescue squad employees located in a corner of the unspoiled nature of Dilijan, continue their selfless activity.
