Water rescuer Vahe Melkonyan is participating in "Hero of Our Times" project organized by the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

A childhood interest led Vahe Melkonyan to the Rescue Service since 2005 when he has been engaged in search and rescue operations, as well as complex technical diving tasks.

"I was always curious about what lay at the bottom of the lake. Firstly, I would dive using homemade equipment: eventually, that interest turned into a profession", said Melkonyan.

This experienced water rescuers knew that the water never forgive mistakes—working safely requires knowledge, experience and constant vigilance. Yet, perhaps the most difficult aspect is the uncertainty inherent in search operations.

"For me, the most important thing is the love and appreciation of the people", added Vahe emphasizing that he has been demonstrating his commitment through his actions for over two decades.
