Due to heavy snowfall, the Rescue Service and the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs switched into enhanced service throughout the Republic from February 20.

Services subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs regularly conducted patrols on a number of road sections and duty stations were set up to provide assistance to drivers and ensure the safety of citizens if necessary.

In two days, rescuers and police officers removed 1 430 stuck vehicles out and provided assistance to 2 889 citizens.

In collaboration with the Road Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, local self-government bodies and road maintenance companies, the Rescue Service and Police officers also assisted in snow clearing operations.

From February 20 to 21, 578 road traffic accidents were recorded across the country, with 35 citizens sustaining injuries. There were no fatalities due to the traffic accidents caused by the snowfall.
